The Pharaoh ant (Monomorium pharaonis) is very small, only 1.5-2 mm long. It has a light yellow to reddish-brown coloration, with a darker abdomen. Its eyes are relatively large compared to the size of its head.
These ants form large colonies with multiple queens. They can reproduce by 'budding,' where a part of the colony breaks off and forms a new one. They prefer warm and humid places and are often found in buildings. They feed on a wide range of products, including greasy and protein-rich foods.
